    I remember watching this episode of ‘The Donna Reed Show’ when it first aired on February 1st, 1962

and falling love with the tune. While some thing’s feel timeless, sadly… 

    All too sadly…

I was surprised to just now learn that backing vocals were done by The Blossoms with Darlene Love (then Wright) as their lead. I was not surprised however at how tellingly white prime time network television was back then, strictly featuring a trio of Caucasians providing backup for Mary while lip syncing the harmonies of The Blossoms. Oh well.

Background vocals is by none other than Darlene Love (then Wright) and The Blossoms a sextette of which she was the lead. (How tellingly white of television to strictly feature caucasians standing behind Shelley, as they lipsync to the Blossom’s backing vocals.)

Update 2026-08-25: Less than a day later country legend Dolly Parton has also left us.
