Hostess TWINkies

Several momentous things:

I just passed a golden anniversary. Fifty years ago today on this same calendar date (July 25th) and identical  day of the week (Thursday), I was thrown my one only surprise birthday party.

Having just reached another milestone in life, I just now noticed the "twin" in "Hostess Twinkies"*. Duh! For that matter however, neither did my fraternal sibling! A keen-eyed, sharp-witted pair we make! Nothing escapes our notice! My only lame excuse is our having grown up in a household where English was our parents' second language. "Tweenkies" is how the snack cake was pronounced.

As far back as the beginning of the 1960's I can remember Mom packing them in our school lunch bags. Why I wouldn't be at all surprised if this confectionery pair were from that same batch! Actually, to be fair, and contrary to the urban legend, the current Hostess Twinkies only has a reported shelf life of forty six days; not centuries.

Now I spoke of a second milestone, well I've just turned seventy. Whereas, remarkably, my twin is only forty four!

*I am aware of the word's other meaning, though it is definitely not in use here.
